NOS Alive festival kicks off today in Oeiras with Arcade Fire and The Smashing Pumpkins.

The 16th edition of the Alive festival kicks off this Thursday at the Passeio Marítimo de Algés in Oeiras with Arcade Fire and The Smashing Pumpkins taking centre stage, on a day that also features Benjamin Clementine, Conjunto Corona, Parcels and Bateu Matou.

The venue opens at 15:00 and this edition once again sees performances divided between seven stages, including a stage dedicated to Portuguese music and a stage where only comedians will perform.

The highlight of Thursday’s show will be Arcade Fire and The Smashing Pumpkins taking to the main stage, which will also feature Benjamin Clementine and Nothing But Thieves.

Jessie Ware, Parcels, Black Pumas, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Bateu Matou, Conjunto Corona, João Não & Lil Noon, Inês Só and Maria Emília are among the artists and bands that will bring music to the thousands of expected spectators.

From Thursday to Saturday, the festival will feature “more than a hundred acts” that “live off more than just the headliners.”

“All the artists are main artists,” stressed promoter Alvaro Covoins of Vse Novoe during a visit to the venue on Wednesday, advising the public to “take a closer look at the program and create your own itinerary so as not to miss what you want to see.”

In a statement released on Tuesday, PSP advised festival-goers to arrive early for the event, “taking into account the large number of people and the security procedures for access to the venue,” and to prioritize the use of public transportation.

The organisation is also calling for the use of public transport, organising a “comprehensive operation with multiple partners” for this purpose.

The train line connecting Lisbon to Cascais, which has a station in Algés, will have “an expanded timetable and increased train service,” according to Alvaro Covoins.

The same will happen on the Transtejo ships between Lisbon and the southern bank of the Tagus.

In addition, in collaboration with Carris, buses will operate between Dokapeska and three points in Lisbon: Estação do Oriente, Santa Apolónia and Marquês de Pombal.

The concert schedule and other information about the festival can be found at www.nosalive.com.
