The government will grant leave on February 21, Carnival Tuesday, to workers performing public functions in the state, in accordance with a decree already signed by Prime Minister António Costa.
“A one-time admission is granted to workers performing public functions in direct public administration services, whether central or decentralized, and in public institutions, on February 21, 2023,” reads the order, which Lusa had access to.
The Prime Minister states that “although Carnival Tuesday is not on the list of obligatory holidays provided for by law, there is an established tradition in Portugal to organize parties during this period.”
