Senegalese customs officials reported Thursday the interception of more than 360 kilograms of cocaine in the southeast of the country, where drug seizures have been repeated in recent months.
365.4 kilos of cocaine were seized on Wednesday in Kupentum in a truck that came from a “neighboring” country that was not listed in the customs report released Thursday. Kupentum is located on the road leading to Mali and Gambia.
The drug, contained in 338 biscuits worth 29.2 billion francs (more than 44 million euros), was hidden under the back of a truck.
According to customs, this is the third seizure of cocaine carried out by Kupentum customs since January, with a total weight of 721 kilograms.
In recent months, Senegalese authorities have made an increasing number of cocaine seizures in neighbouring countries, namely Guinea Conakry, Gambia, Guinea Bissau and Mali, which are known transit areas for drugs produced in Latin America en route to Europe.
Customs have reported several cocaine seizures in recent months, including one tonne in mid-April in the east of the country, on the border with Mali, and several others earlier this month.
In November 2023, the army announced the seizure of nearly three tons of cocaine from a ship detained in international waters off the coast of Senegal.
