A Butler County police officer saw the gunman who tried to kill Donald Trump on a rooftop during Saturday’s rally but was unable to stop him from shooting the former US president, according to a report. CNN.
Butler County Sheriff, Michael Slupe, said agents received information that a suspicious person would be on the perimeter of the rally when they found Thomas Matthew Crooks already on the roof. An officer even tried to intervene, but the shooter pointed a gun at him, forcing him to “take cover,” after which Thomas began shooting at Trump.
The sheriff admitted there had been a security breach.
“It’s being investigated and obviously we’ll learn something from it eventually,” he added. Michael Slupe.
