This Monday, the Guimarães Court sentenced firefighter Fafe, accused of starting nine forest fires between 2022 and 2023, to ten years in prison.
The court found that Pedro Costa, 32, was responsible for six of the nine arsons he was accused of. The defendant, who was an active member of the Fafe firefighters, has been in preventive detention since July last year, when he was detained by the Braga Judicial Police. He will remain in prison.
Pedro Costa was accused of starting nine forest fires in several districts of the municipality of Fafe, using devices he had made himself to accelerate the spread of the fires. He remained silent during his trial, and this Monday the panel that tried him in Guimarães sentenced him to ten years in prison.
