The General Assemblies of Gipuzkoa have approved the report of conclusions of the committee for tax reform after incorporate most of the amendments presented by EH Bilduwhich paves the way for the approval of the final opinion in the Finance Committee this Thursday.
The pro-sovereignty coalition has joined its votes this Monday with those of the regional government parties (PNV and PSE-EE) to give a yes to the report, which has had the support of abstentions by the PP and Elkarrekin Podemos.
This tripartite agreement will allow for an analysis of the taxation of all incomes, especially in order to achieve lower taxation for the lowest incomes and to reinforce progressiveness for the rest.
“When EH Bildu is in agreement to improve public policies, the well-being of citizens improves. We are very clear that we have come to politics, and specifically to the General Assemblies of Gipuzkoa, to provide answers to the problems of citizens and to provide joint responses through agreements between different parties,” said the council member Haritz Perez.
For his part, the secretary of the PSE-EE of Gipuzkoa, José Ignacio Asensio, has considered that with this report “all expectations of the tax reform have been met.”
The 39-page document prepared by the chairman of the committee, Xabier Otxoa, after listening to the experts who have passed through the regional chamber in recent months, has been supplemented by more than thirty amendments from EH Bildu, plus a similar number of others that have been negotiated, thus laying the foundations, according to Perez, “for furthering a fair and progressive tax reform”.
