The Judicial Police (PJ) reported that a 19-year-old man suspected of buying 5,000 euros in counterfeit banknotes in a foreign country was subject to periodic presentation to authorities by order of the Setubal Court.
The arrested young man had been under investigation since January last year, when a customs delegation at Lisbon airport discovered a suspicious package containing counterfeit 50-euro notes worth a total of 5,000 euros.
During a house search on Monday, Setubal police arrested a young suspect and confiscated another 30,000 euros in counterfeit banknotes and prohibited weapons.
The detainee, who has no criminal record, is accused of acquiring currency for circulation, selling counterfeit currency and possessing prohibited weapons.
