The European Parliament’s president acknowledged on Tuesday that the institute is examining measures to be taken at the request of MEPs over the controversy surrounding Hungary’s presidency of the European Union (EU), mainly following Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s trip to Russia.
“We will check what needs to be done at the level of the Conference of Presidents [órgão que junta o líder da assembleia europeia e os presidentes dos partidos]at committee level, at ministerial level, at debate level and at priority level. This is what will determine the actions that Parliament will take in the coming weeks, but especially in the coming months, until the end of this term,” said Roberta Metsola.
A day after it was announced that the president of the Community’s executive, Ursula von der Leyen, had decided not to make a routine visit of the College of Commissioners to the country that holds the rotating EU presidency, Hungary, because of the recent disagreements, the high-level leader of the European Assembly also refused to represent the EU. At a high level, the leader of the European Assembly admitted that she had received “a series of messages from many members asking for action”.
