The government wants to make it easier to deliver public services with less paperwork

The government has presented 15 measures aimed at “simplifying and combating bureaucracy,” the head of government explained. There will be fewer paper documents and greater coordination of services.

The executive intends to make it easier for those “who have digital tools” to use it and to help those “who don’t know how to use” new technologies. According to the prime minister, “the public administration must communicate more and better with each other” and cannot “work in watertight compartments.”

Minister of Youth and Modernization Margarida Balseyro Lopes has promised to create several civic spaces in universities, hospitals and other consulates. More than 20 Citizen stores will also be created. Immigrants with a residence permit will have simultaneous access to their tax, social security and social media numbers, and a digital bulletin will be created for pregnant women and young people. Newborns also have a user number in the maternity ward. Dental checks are no longer paper. Losing a wallet could be less of a headache if the leader creates an online tool for redoing documents. The validity of passports will be doubled to ten years.
