The Ministry of Education, Science and Innovation (MECI) has announced that it will extend the contract for another year for technical specialists specialising in other functions (TEOF) in the school context. This category includes “psychologists, speech therapists, social workers, social educators, among others”. In cases where technical specialists decide not to continue working, replacements will be hired.
The government has not disclosed the number of technicians who will continue to work, but the Order of Portuguese Psychologists guarantees that more than half a thousand professionals will be covered. “More than 500 psychologists have found themselves in a precarious situation and we welcome their continued presence in schools. It is also important that within this framework there is an integration process that contributes to greater stability,” he said. CM President Francisco Rodriguez, recalling that the government has already announced its intention to create a career for school psychologists.
Filinto Lima of the Principals’ Association (Andaep) says “it is necessary to understand if there are schools that need more technical staff than last year” and advocates their “joining the ranks”.
