PSP makes seven arrests in Algarve for drug trafficking and possession of prohibited weapons

Algarve police arrested seven people on Tuesday on suspicion of drug trafficking and possession of prohibited weapons in three separate operations carried out in Faro, Lagos and Portimao, the PSP said on Wednesday.

The PSP District Command of Faro District said in a statement that five of the people were arrested on Tuesday morning in Faro as part of an investigation carried out by the city’s Criminal Investigation Team, which resulted in the seizure of several drugs and weapons.

The other two detainees were under police surveillance during patrols aimed at increasing surveillance in areas with a high concentration of tourists in the Faro district, namely Lagos and Portimão, and were also found in possession of “various types of drugs” and money obtained through criminal activity, the PSP added.

During the operation carried out in Faro, “several searches were carried out inside and outside the home, resulting in the seizure of heroin, amphetamines and hashish, as well as signal weapons, sharp weapons, ammunition, brass knuckles, money and various materials used for packaging and selling drugs,” the security forces said.

The corporation specified that in the case of Lagos and Portimao, “patrols were carried out specifically in areas with the highest tourist flow” and “two suspected drug traffickers were found and detained” in possession of “various types of drugs” which were confiscated along with “money believed to be the proceeds of their criminal activities.”

“During the various actions, a total of 144 doses of heroin, 142 doses of cocaine, 83 doses of amphetamine, 94 doses of hashish and 1,257 euros were seized,” the PSP reported.

The same source said that all detainees will still be present in court for the first judicial interrogation and the application of possible coercive measures.
