European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, who is seeking re-election by the European Parliament this Thursday, once again criticized the Hungarian Prime Minister’s trip to Moscow, speaking of a “mission of appeasement” rather than peace.
“Russia is counting on Europe and the West to go soft and some in Europe to submit. Two weeks ago, the EU prime minister [UE] went to Moscow. This so-called peacekeeping mission was nothing more than a peacekeeping mission, it was a peacekeeping mission pure and simple,” Ursula von der Leyen said.
Speaking to MEPs at a plenary session in the French city of Strasbourg, the leader of the local executive, who is seeking to be reinstated for another five years on Thursday, criticized Viktor Orban’s trip to Moscow earlier this month to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin as Hungary takes over the EU presidency this semester.
