European Council President-elect António Costa congratulated Ursula von der Leyen on her re-election as President of the European Commission on Thursday, saying the landmark vote “is good news” for the European Union (EU).
“Congratulations to Ursula von der Leyen on her re-election to the European Parliament with a large majority. This is good news for Europe and for Europeans,” wrote António Costa on the social network X (formerly Twitter).
The former Portuguese prime minister added that “it will be a pleasure to work in a team for Europe.”
