The failure to pay the December salaries of journalists at the Global Media group caused a real shock at the end of last year. Several strikes put the projects at risk, and at the request of the Left Bloc, several members of the group were heard in parliament. One of the most emotional speeches was that of Domingos Andrade, who told MPs in an emotional tone that Global Media was “breaking the backs of editorial offices by starving them,” and criticized the impact of the decisions taken on the lives of journalists and the viability of news organizations themselves. The complaint has now reached the ERC, in which Domingos Andrade is accused of conduct identical to that accused by the foundation that tried to buy Marco Galinha’s position at Global Media. “The instruction given by Domingos Andrade to the former directors of the group is public and prohibits them from sending any invitation to the President of the Republic or the Prime Minister for interviews or other types of work without his authorization,” can be read in the document, which contains accusations that Domingos Andrade threatened, coerced and pressured several journalists. It should also be noted that, as part of Operation Babylon, Domingos Andrade was caught on wiretapping telling the mayor of Gaia that the praise he gave to António Costa in a television commentary was not unfounded. The prosecutor’s office says that they also exchanged news for an advertising contract in the aforementioned groups.
Super Dragons used to be pressed
The complaint states that Domingos Andrade maintained a privileged and disorderly relationship with the Super Dragões, which was often used to make threats within the group. It also denounces his closeness to Bruno de Carvalho and his connection to a communications company that was used to create hundreds of fake profiles on the Internet, intended only to threaten anyone who criticized the then leader.
Another complaint concerns the hiring of a company from Vila Nova de Famalicão to develop the migration of the group’s websites “under the pretext that it was a start-up with capabilities and experience in the market.” “The only thing that stands out from its portfolio is the provision of services to Futebol Clube do Porto (….), and the inevitable happened. A complete failure to evolve and meet the work he entrusted,” reads the same document, which states that the company was hired only because of its strong connection with Domingos Andrade. “It was money thrown out on the street.”
COMPENSATION OF 130 THOUSAND EUROS
The complaint filed with the DCIAP and PGR says Domingos Andrade demanded €130,000 in compensation after leaving the group late last year, even though he never left the group. He says the money was paid to him through a company linked to Marco Galinha’s group.
Tax crimes
At stake are suspicions of harmful management, as well as tax crimes. The request to the prosecutor’s office is aimed at investigating the degradation of the group’s assets.
hand to spank
The story, which appeared in Wednesday’s edition under the headline “Green Ticket Workers Suspend Cooperation” (page 30), was illustrated by a photograph whose headline was incorrect: where it said “Media Capital Employees” it should have read “Global Media Employees”. For this reason, we apologize to readers and those who were victims.
in silence
ABOUT CM tried to listen to Domingos Andrade. The administrator/journalist did not respond to our contacts and refused to explain what was now reported to the Court.
