More than 1.2 million people need humanitarian aid in northern Mozambique

More than 1.2 million people need humanitarian assistance in northern Mozambique due to insecurity and violence caused by terrorist attacks, according to United Nations figures released Saturday.

A report by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), with data as of May last year, identifies the provinces most affected by the effects of “armed conflict” and insecurity in the region, which have led to the flight of populations, following repeated attacks, in Cabo Delgado, Nampula and Niassa.

The report found that 1.7 million people in Mozambique require humanitarian support of all types, including 1.24 million victims of armed conflict in the north, mainly in Cabo Delgado, and 429,623 people across the country, in this case to mitigate the risks and impacts of natural disasters.
