Euro and pound rise after resignation of Liz Truss

The euro rose against the dollar this Thursday, and the pound sterling also recorded a slight strengthening after the resignation of British Prime Minister Liz Truss, who led the government for just 44 days.

Despite continued risk aversion in the market, at 5:55 pm (Lisbon time) the euro traded at $0.98241 and on Wednesday afternoon it traded at $0.97882.

The European Central Bank (ECB) has set the euro base rate at $0.9811.

Amid political turmoil in the United Kingdom following Trass’ resignation, the pound gained 0.11% against the euro and gained 0.69% against the dollar.

In late September, when the Truss government announced measures that cast doubt on the soundness of British government accounts, the pound fell to a record low against the dollar, trading at $1.0350. It was trading at $1.1263 this Thursday.
