Kamala has an open path to the presidency

Kamala Harris has a clear path to face Donald Trump in November’s presidential election after securing the support of a majority of delegates who will choose the Democratic nominee in less than 48 hours.

“I am very proud to have received the endorsement of a majority of the delegates who will select the nominee. I look forward to formally accepting the nomination,” Harris said Monday evening in a statement released by her campaign after securing the support of more than 2,500 delegates to the Democratic National Convention, which begins Aug. 19 in Chicago. That’s a huge number, higher than the 1976 number needed to nominate her. The vice president has already secured the near-unanimous support of the party’s major figures, including the Clintons and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, as well as all potential rivals in the race.

Harris’ campaign also said the candidate has raised more than $100 million in donations since Joe Biden announced his withdrawal on Sunday, more than double the $95 million the former candidate left in the campaign coffers.

On Monday night, during a campaign stop in Delaware, Harris vowed to use her experience as a prosecutor to take on Trump on the campaign trail. “I’ve dealt with all types of criminals. Predators who abuse women, scammers who defraud consumers, and scammers who bend the rules to take advantage of themselves. So believe me when I say I know the Trump type,” he said.
