A man of Cape Verdean origin and Portuguese nationality was arrested in Cape Verde’s Porto da Praia for international arms trafficking when he tried to bring 585 rounds of ammunition into the country, police said Wednesday.
The Cape Verde National Police (PN) said in a statement that a 48-year-old man with residence permits in Switzerland and Cape Verde was arrested following an operation to deconsolidate a container arriving from Lisbon, where 585 rounds of ammunition were found.
During the operation, the NP, together with the Praia Customs, confiscated a vehicle containing 12 and 36 mm caliber ammunition, commonly used in homemade weapons called “boca bejo”.
