Hostage Families Criticize Netanyahu’s Speech to US Congress

The Forum of Families of Hostages and Missing Persons expressed regret over Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s speech to the US Congress on Wednesday for failing to reference an immediate agreement to release people detained by the Palestinian group Hamas.

“Forty-five minutes of speeches and applause will not erase the sad fact that the words ‘I now agree!’ were not present in the Prime Minister’s speech, nor was there any mention of the 116 hostages who will not be returning home again tonight,” the group said in a statement.

Thousands of Israelis who advocate an immediate ceasefire agreement and the release of hostages held since October 7 after the Hamas attack in southern Israel watched Netanyahu’s speech live before the two chambers of the US Congress in Washington on screens in the renamed Abducted People’s Square in Tel Aviv, waiting for the “there is a deal” statement.
