Four areas of mainland Portugal will be under orange alert until 6pm this Thursday due to hot weather forecast, the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) has announced.
An orange alert was activated in Bragança, Guarda, Faro and Castelo Branco at 00:10 and will remain in force until 18:00.
Following this, a yellow warning will be in effect in four areas until 6pm on Friday.
According to IPMA, Santarém and Braga are also under a yellow warning for hot weather until 6pm this Thursday, while Viseu, Évora, Vila Real, Beja and Portalegre will remain under a yellow warning until 6pm on Friday.
According to IPMA, Madeira also has an orange warning in place for hot weather in mountainous areas until 6pm, then changes to yellow until 6pm on Friday.
The north and south coasts of Madeira, as well as Porto Santo, are under a yellow warning for hot weather until 6pm on Friday.
An orange warning is issued by IPMA when the meteorological situation is of moderate to high risk, and a yellow warning when there is a risk to certain activities depending on the meteorological situation.
