Tomorrowland once again fills small Belgian town with 200,000 people for the weekend

Electronic music festival Tomorrowland returns this Friday to Sunday in the small Belgian town of Boom, and like the previous weekend, 200,000 attendees are expected to close out the 20th anniversary edition.

“The first weekend was a success. We had around 200,000 festival visitors, 38,000 people camped and we expect similar numbers this coming weekend,” festival spokesperson and communications officer Debbie Wilmsen said in a statement to Lusa.

It is in the Belgian town of Boom, with a population of less than 20,000, that every year since 2005, fans of electronic music have gathered to see some of the world’s most famous DJs at a festival that began with an audience of 10,000 and now numbers 400,000 participants from 200 countries (including Portugal and Brazil), spread over two weekends.

A total of 800 artists will perform across the two weekends on 16 stages set up there – a complex the size of 63 football pitches that took 52 days to assemble – including renowned DJ Alesso, Armin van Buuren, David Guetta, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Hardwell, Sebastian Ingrosso, Swedish House Mafia and Tiësto.

Following Portuguese DJ Diego Miranda’s partnership with UK producer Azteck last weekend, Portuguese DJ Cura will also perform next Saturday.

The event is covered by about 400 journalists, half every weekend.

Tomorrowland is one of the world’s largest and most iconic music festivals, covering all genres of electronic dance. This year it celebrates its 20th anniversary under the motto “Life”.

What started as a family festival has now evolved into a global entertainment brand and will return to Itu, in São Paulo, in October for the fourth edition of Tomorrowland Brasil (joining festivals also held in the US and France).

After previous editions in 2015, 2016 and 2022, Tomorrowland Brasil now returns to Itu, where around 180 thousand tickets were sold out in less than three hours under the motto “Adscendo”, which symbolizes the shared love and unity of the festival of people from all over the world through the universal language of music.

The Tomorrowland group currently operates in eight countries, such as Belgium, Brazil, Mexico, the Netherlands, France and Spain, as well as the emirate of Dubai, while the entertainment group has offices in Antwerp (in addition to a studio in Chelles and a warehouse in Ramst), in Alpe d’Huez (France) and in Sao Paulo (Brazil) to organize events and recreation.

The company, 100% Flemish, has a turnover of around 250 million euros, employs more than 200 permanent staff with an average age of 30 years and 15,000 workers per day during Belgium’s Tomorrowland.

Every year, about a million tickets are sold for all festivals and events.
