The number of trips by Portuguese residents in the first quarter of this year fell by 7.8% compared to the same period in 2023, to 4.5 million, the first drop since the second quarter of 2021, according to the National Statistics Institute.
This decline was due to a reduction in domestic travel (which fell by 10.0%) and an increase in foreign travel, which increased by 9.2% year-on-year to 599.5 thousand.
“Domestic trips decreased by 10.0%, amounting to 3.9 million (86.6% of the total number of trips), while trips abroad increased by 9.2%, reaching 599.5 thousand (13.4% of the total),” indicate the statistics on demand for residents in the first quarter of this year, published by the National Statistics Institute (INE).
