A US study has found that women aged 20 to 59 who have sex less than once a week are 70% more likely to die from any cause within five years compared to women who have sex more than once a week.
According to the British newspaper Daily Mail, these women had high levels of a protein that can cause damage to cells, tissues and organs. The team of researchers did not find the same cause-and-effect relationship in men and concluded that women benefit from having sex more than once a week.
The authors used records of illnesses (obesity, depression, etc.) and mortality. Some data showed that the risk of death reached 197 percent in people who reported low sexual frequency or depression.
But the harmful effects of depression are largely mitigated by the high frequency of sexual intercourse in women. Researchers even concluded that men with a high frequency of sexual intercourse are six times more likely to die than women.
