Twelve companies selling food additives have been fined as a result of an operation that the National Administration of Food and Economic Security (ASAE) has carried out across the country in recent weeks, as announced this Monday.
According to the published report, ASAE inspected 125 economic operators involved in the sale of dietary supplements, namely herbalists, natural food stores and supermarkets, among others.
These operations were carried out both physically and online, including through social media, in order to verify compliance with the legal standards applicable to these products, which are intended to supplement and/or complement the diet.
The main violations identified relate to the lack of translation into Portuguese of mandatory information, the sale of food additives in violation of the rules of labeling, presentation and advertising, the lack of prices for the products, the lack of a complaint book in electronic communication and the lack of simple preliminary communication, among others.
During these operations, 150 kilograms of food additives with a total value of 4,150 euros were also seized due to labelling discrepancies.
ASAE warns that “it will continue to develop inspection activities within its competence throughout the country to ensure food safety and public health of consumers, as well as in favor of healthy and fair competition among economic operators.”
