Club League ‘worried’ about possible IMI charge to stadiums

The Portuguese Professional Football League (LPFP) is “concerned about the financial impact” that a possible IMI collection from sports venues could have on clubs and has asked the Financial Working Group to assess the impact.

The Council of the LPFP, which met this Wednesday at the organization’s headquarters in Porto, is “closely” following the possibility of imposing municipal property tax (IMI) on sports venues, expressing “concern about the financial consequences that such a measure could have on clubs, professional football and the Portuguese football on a global scale.

The possibility of IMI charging IMI on sports venues is questionable, similar to what it would do with dams, although a few clubs are tax exempt because they have public service status and/or their stadiums are considered immovable representing municipal interests. .

The LPFP also appealed to the decision of the Supreme Administrative Court, upholding the decision of the first instance, which gave grounds to the representative body of professional clubs to challenge the process of additional assessment of VAT for 2003 and 2004, in which the Tax Authority demanded the payment of 763 thousand euros.
