José Coelho, 69, a retired teacher, was found dead at home in the historic center of Évora this Friday. He was lying on the floor of the second floor of the house he rented and where he sometimes slept, wrapped in rags and blankets.
The smell of dustdestruction left no doubt that this former philosophy professor had long since died. His family had already noticed his disappearance, but the man’s lifestyle was one of isolation.
He was found dead under circumstances that have yet to be determined. When authorities broke down the door of the house, the smell spread along Serpa Pinto Street and the judicial police were called to the house.
For PS there is no doubt that José Coelho was murdered. The house where he was found had rented rooms, and no one could have lived there without noticing Professor Coelho’s death.
The investigation is being carried out by the Evora Judicial Police, which inspected the house where José Coelho was found with a fine-toothed comb. The investigation, which has now begun, only knows that a crime has taken place and that there are currently no suspects.
This man was known in the area and was often seen in the Giraldo de Évora square with his pastry shop (bicycle), with an umbrella to protect himself from the sun and always wearing a mask after the pandemic, just observing and always very thoughtful.
