A 29-year-old man remains missing in Rio Arada, and the search will resume on Sunday.

The search for a 29-year-old man who went missing on Thursday in the Arade River in Portimão, Faro district, while paddleboarding was unsuccessful this Saturday but will continue on Sunday, an official source said.

Speaking to Lusa, Commander Luis Pousadas Godinho said search operations would resume on Sunday after dawn and would be “searches integrated into land patrols” and in the “water mirror”, using marine rescue motorcycles, “seewatch” project patrols and “a picket of the local command of the marine police”.

The search area on Sunday will be, as today, between the railway bridge on the Arade River and the docks at the entrance to the Portimão bar.

The missing man is said to have encountered difficulties while rowing on the Arade River, in a dredging area south of Dock Peska.

The Marine Police Psychological Unit was called in to provide support to the person accompanying the victim, who was also in the water but was wearing a life jacket and managed to reach the shore, alerting the authorities.
