Three kayakers, aged between eight and 50, were rescued on Saturday evening after being pulled from the coast of Carcavelos beach in Cascais and were in “physical health”, according to the National Maritime Authority.
In a statement released today, the National Maritime Administration said the crew of the Cascais rescue station rescued the three foreign nationals “after they had been blown away from the shore by the wind and were unable to return to land.”
The alarm was received at 20:50 through the Lisbon Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Centre, with crew members from the Cascais station and the local command of the Cascais Marine Police, as well as members of the Cascais Volunteer Fire Service and INEM involved.
According to the National Maritime Authority, upon arrival at the scene, rescuers found the three practitioners “physically healthy, having been rescued at the Cascais marina,” where they were treated by firefighters and INEM.
The local command of the Cascais Marine Police claimed responsibility for the incident.
