A bleeding woman with a fetus in her bag was refused treatment at the Caldas da Rainha hospital on Monday morning, TVI reports.
A 31-year-old pregnant woman who had suffered a miscarriage was given assistance half an hour later at the insistence of firefighters who did not allow her to be transferred to the Bissaia Barreto maternity ward in Coimbra.
The woman was advised to call 112 while she was outside the hospital, according to Caldas da Rainha fire chief Nelson Cruz, quoted by the television station.
Firefighters found the woman bleeding “profusely, like a fetus in a sac.”
“Luckily, our ambulance crew was aware of this and insisted. The hospital decided to allow them to make a uniform and admit the woman,” the commander added.
