A 68-year-old Portuguese tourist was found dead on Monday in a luxury hotel in Medellin, Colombia, authorities said, citing local newspapers.
“His companion found him lifeless,” added authorities, who identified the victim as Elder Manuel Martinez Amaral.
Authorities believe the death was due to natural causes. However, tragedies involving tourists in the Colombian city are a regular occurrence.
Elder became the 38th foreigner to die in Medellin in 2024. Of those deaths, only two were ruled homicides.
“We need legal medicine to quickly determine the causes of death of foreigners. Most of them happen without any signs of violence or theft,” said local mayor Federico Gutierrez.
However, the politician emphasizes that even two murder cases were closed and the suspects were detained.
