In the midst of a health crisis, with several emergency departments closed, the President of the Republic and the Prime Minister will visit this Thursday the renovated maternity wards of the Santa Maria Hospital in Lisbon, accompanied by the Minister of Health, Ana Paula Martins, who has become the director of this hospital department. The government official has become one of the main targets of criticism at a time of increasing pressure on the National Health Service (SNS). Moreover, in the two months of implementing the emergency plan, only two of the 54 measures have been completed: the SNS Grávida service line, integrated into the SNS 24 line, and the streamlining of the oncological surgery queue. The opposition PS party accused the minister of “wasting time shifting blame,” said MP João Paulo Correia, who criticized Ana Paula Martins’ silence.
