Golden day? Pichardot tries to regain title and become national medalist. View Portuguese calendar

Portugal’s Pedro Pichardo is attempting to defend his Olympic triple jump title this Friday in Paris 2024, the day that canoeists João Ribeiro and Messias Baptista, world champions, are vying for medals in the K2 500m.

After needing just one jump to reach the final of the 2024 Paris Olympics with a best qualifying result of 17.44 meters, Pichardot is becoming one of the great candidates to repeat as gold medalist.

Spaniard Jordan Dias, who beat Portugal in the final of the European Championship in Rome, and Hugues Fabrice Zango from Burkina Faso are the Portuguese’s main rivals in the final, which Thiago Pereira did not qualify for and which is scheduled for 20:10 local time (19:10 in Lisbon).

Before that, starting at 19:37, Jessica Inchude will take part in the shot put final and, having secured a place in the top 12 at the Olympics, has set her goal of reaching the top 8.

World champions João Ribeiro and Messias Baptista are also in contention for medals in the K2 500m and will enter the semi-finals from 11:20am, hoping to be one of the first four boats in their series to reach the final, scheduled for 1:30pm.

In a method that will make its Olympic debut, Vanessa Marina will compete in a round robin format with breaks starting at 4 p.m. in search of a place in the final stages, which begin with the “quarters” at 8 p.m.
