Porto Municipal Police this Wednesday discovered a commercial establishment that operated as “illegal housing” and housed six Bangladeshi immigrants, including two children.
Speaking to Lusa, Porto Municipal Police Chief António Leitao said that at the back of a commercial establishment located on Rua de Antero de Quental, inspection teams found “an extended set of beds and cots” housing Bangladeshi migrants.
“There was an illegal space at the back of the supermarket with poor sanitation,” he said.
At the scene, agents found 11 beds that housed at least six immigrants, including two children.
Six immigrants have already been assigned to the Social Security Service.
“Basically, [hoje] they will stay in the same place. Social Security still hasn’t found a solution, but they’ve already been flagged and I hope tomorrow [quinta-feira] settle down,” he said.
António Leitao told Luce that the municipal police received several complaints related to institutions that are licensed to carry out certain activities and at the same time accommodate people, so inspection actions will be initiated in this area.
