One of the most anticipated films of the year arrived in Portugal this week and is already causing controversy. “It Ends Here,” an adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s novel that went viral on TikTok and has sold over 20 million copies worldwide, is a meditation on toxic relationships, inspired by the relationship between the American writer’s parents, and tells a story of passion and domestic violence.
The main character is Lily Bloom (Blake Lively), who, after overcoming a traumatic childhood, finds love in the arms of neurosurgeon Ryle Kincaid (Justin Baldoni, who also directed the film), but when the two meet, she discovers her abusive boyfriend is abusing her emotionally, physically and sexually.
However, Lily has remained by his side for several years and has a daughter. The situation has divided opinions among the public, despite actress Blake Lively already stating that it is a “tragic but inspiring” story.
On the other hand, some fans of the saga are outraged by the changes made to the original story, namely the age of the main characters, who are older in the film.
