Susana Santos and Maria Martins will become the last Portuguese women to compete at the 2024 Paris Olympics when they take part in the marathon and track cycling combined events respectively.
Maria Martins’ race is highly anticipated: she finished seventh at Tokyo 2020 in the same specialty, and most recently she was eighth at the 2024 European Championships and third at the 2023 World Championships.
Susana Godinho Santos is making her Olympic debut after qualifying for the marathon last December in Valencia with a personal best of 02:25.35 hours, more than three minutes off her first time over the 42.195 kilometres (2:28.56, in Seville).
The Paris 2024 Olympic Games will conclude this Sunday, with the closing ceremony scheduled for 20:00 local time (19:00 in Lisbon) at the Stade de France in Paris.
