The Bragança security service has arrested a 51-year-old man on suspicion of committing a crime of domestic violence against his partner and her two children, in an action brought following a complaint, the security forces said Monday.
According to a statement from the PSP, the police action was initiated following a report received by the Operations Command and Control Centre reporting ongoing attacks on a residential building in the city.
According to the same recording, upon arrival at the scene, agents found the suspect physically assaulting the victims.
“It was necessary to use strictly necessary force to immobilize the aggressor and stop the attacks. During the intervention, the victim confirmed that the physical attacks were a recurring situation and that there had already been a previous case of domestic violence against the suspect,” the PSP explained.
According to police, the victims reported that the assailant punched them several times in the chest, face and upper limbs, causing them severe pain. In addition, the suspect reportedly threatened the victims with a large knife, which was later recovered.
After his arrest, the suspect was taken to a detention cell and then brought to the Bragança Court. The coercive measure applied was a ban on contact with the victims, while they must maintain a distance of more than 300 meters, controlled by an electronic bracelet.
PSP Bragança reaffirms its commitment to protecting victims of domestic violence by ensuring strict compliance with the law and the necessary support for victims.
