Around 50 municipalities in the inland north, central and Algarve are at highest risk of fire.

According to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), about 50 municipalities in the north and center of the country, as well as in the Algarve region, are at maximum risk of fire this Tuesday.

According to IPMA, almost five dozen municipalities are at maximum risk in the districts of Bragança, Viseu, Coimbra, Guarda, Castelo Branco, Portalegre, Leiria and Santarém.

Around 80 municipalities in the districts of Bragança, Vila Real, Porto, Aveiro, Viseu, Coimbra, Leiria, Guarda, Castelo Branco, Portalegre, Santarem, Beja and Faro are in a very high risk zone.

IPMA has placed almost the entire Alentejo region and dozens of municipalities in Lisbon, Santarém, Léria, Coimbra, Viseu, Aveiro, Braga and Viana do Castelo at high risk.

The fire risk defined by IPMA has five levels, from ‘reduced’ to ‘maximum’, and calculations are based on air temperature, relative humidity, wind speed and rainfall over the past 24 hours.

Cooler maximum temperatures are expected on Tuesday, especially inland, with some rain or drizzle possible along the coast north of Cabo Raso.

Minimum temperatures will range from 14°C (Guarda) to 20°C (Faro), and maximum temperatures from 23°C (Viana do Castelo and Porto) to 31°C (Castelo Branco, Evora, Beja and Faro).
