A 31-year-old man was arrested in Amarante on suspicion of kidnapping another man on October 23, 2023, and holding him responsible for the theft of three motorcycles, the Judicial Police (PJ) said on Tuesday.
According to the SP, searches of houses carried out on Monday in Amarante, in the district of Porto, also resulted in the seizure of “three firearms, a shotgun, a pistol, a revolver, as well as several cartridges and ammunition.”
In a press release, the investigative police said the suspect, “believing that the victim had stolen three of his motorcycles a few days earlier, (…) accompanied by another person, forced the victim into a car.” He then drove to a deserted area to demand information about the location of the motorcycles at gunpoint.”
“The victim, who had nothing to do with the theft, was eventually freed by family members who arrived at the scene,” the publication adds.
The detainee, who lives abroad, will be brought to the competent judicial authority for the application of coercive measures, the statement also said.
