The average monthly gross salary per employee, which does not take into account, for example, holiday and Christmas bonuses, is set at 1,640 euros. The data published on Tuesday by the National Statistics Institute (INE) therefore show an increase of 6.4% for the quarter ending June 2024 compared to June 2023.
INE reports that in June, the average total remuneration ranged from €976 – in agriculture, livestock farming, hunting, forestry and fishing – to €3,588 paid in activities related to the energy sector, namely electricity.
In real terms, that is, taking inflation into account, “the average monthly total gross wage increased by 3.6%,” the statistics agency concludes. The figure translates into a wage swap for 4.7 million jobs between private and public sector workers.
For the quarter ending March 2024, according to INE, there was “an acceleration in prices (from 2.2% to 2.7%) and a slowdown in real wages.”
Compared with June last year, total monthly remuneration in the second quarter increased across all parameters analysed by INE, that is, taking into account economic activity, company size, institutional sector, technological area and knowledge.
The greatest growth was seen in INE in extractive industries, companies with 500 or more employees, and service companies requiring a higher level of expertise.
