A 68-year-old woman was arrested on Tuesday on suspicion of causing a forest fire in the parish of Vidais, in Caldas da Rainha, Leiria district, GNR reported.
In a statement, the GNR command of Leiria said that following the fire that broke out in the city of Ribeira de Crastos, “immediate police measures were taken that allowed information to be collected and the causes and authorship” of the fire to be determined.
According to the State Research Institute, it was possible to establish that the fire that engulfed the forest area was caused by “burning of agricultural land harvest residues,” which resulted in the death of a 68-year-old woman. The person responsible was
Subsequently, the PNR officers detained the woman and confiscated the used lighter.
The detainee was declared an accused and the facts were referred to the Caldas da Rainha Court, the GNR note also states.
