Unions call for transport strategy after rail passes announced

The Federation of Transport and Telecommunications Unions (Fectrans) described the creation of the rail pass announced by the prime minister as a separate measure and said Portugal needed an “integrated transport policy”.

Fectrans said the measures to encourage the use of public transport were “positive” but it had yet to be clarified “whether this would effectively be a new measure” or an “adjustment” to the national rail pass, which costs €49 a month, according to a statement sent to Lusa on Thursday.

Prime Minister Luis Montenegro announced on Wednesday the introduction of a €20-a-month train pass that will give access to all urban, regional, interregional and intercity trains.
