Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced on Friday that Poland will formally submit a bid to host the 2040 or 2044 Olympic Games.
“I dedicate this decision to the 10, 12 and 15 year olds of today: Poland will officially become a candidate to host the Olympic Games,” Donald Tusk told the media a few days after the end of the last event in Paris 2024.
However, the official said, “the realistic prospect, given the decisions, commitments and preliminary statements of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), is that it will happen in 2040 or 2044.”
The announcement follows Polish President Andrzej Duda’s announcement last year that he intends to submit his country’s bid to host the 2036 Summer Olympics.
Poland has never hosted the Olympic Games. It co-hosted the 2012 European Football Championship with Ukraine and will host the 2023 European Games, a multi-sport event held every four years that first took place in 2015.
The next two Olympic Games will be held in Los Angeles (USA) in 2028 and Brisbane (Australia) in 2032. However, Qatar has already expressed its intention to host the event in 2036 in Doha.
