EasyJet strike with 70% participation and no disruption to operations

The strike at easyJet recorded a turnout of about 70% on Thursday, the same level expected this Friday, the company said, adding that operations had been normal so far.

“Yesterday [quinta-feira]”The commitment level was 70% and we expect the same level today. Operations are running smoothly, with no delays in reporting and no additional cancellations,” easyjet said in response to Luce.

The National Union of Civil Aviation Pilots (SNPVAC) has called a three-day strike by Easyjet cabin crew, which began on Thursday and will last until Saturday.

The strike covers all easyJet-operated flights and other services where cabin crew are assigned “whose reporting hours are in the country from 00:01 on 15 August until 24:00 on 17 August,” the notice, sent on 31 July, said.

Therefore, the strike notice does not apply to a flight departing outside Portugal and heading, for example, to Lisbon and returning to its point of departure.

On Thursday morning, at the start of the strike, easyjet said membership was around 73%, but the union put the level at “close to 100%” with “93% of flights cancelled”.

This Friday the company announced final membership figures for the first day of the strike at 70%, expecting the same to be true this Friday, without major disruptions.

The strike was approved at the general meeting, with 99% of the votes cast in favor.

The union accuses the company of ignoring various attempts to resolve labor issues, including staff shortages and longer working hours.

The company said customers of the cancelled flights had been contacted and would be eligible for a refund or a free transfer to a new flight.

easyJet has also advised customers travelling to and from Portugal during the strike period to check the status of their flights.
