TAP to become ‘air transport partner’ of World Youth Day

TAP will become the official “air transport partner” of World Youth Day to mobilize more young pilgrims from all over the world, as announced this Friday.

TAP Air Portugal and World Youth Day (WYD) have signed a partnership agreement that makes the company the official “air transport partner” of the event to be held in Lisbon in August, with the aim of “facilitating the participation of pilgrims”. at the largest international meeting of youth with Pope Francis,” the two organizations said in a communiqué.

As part of this collaboration, TAP Air Portugal will provide pilgrims with favorable travel conditions on company-operated flights that land or depart from Lisbon and Porto airports 10 days before or after WYD, as per protocol.

In a statement, WYD Lisbon 2023 Foundation President Américo Aguiar states that “partnership with TAP Air Portugal is important to mobilize and facilitate the participation of young people from other continents in WYD, allowing them to travel to the country to witness and experience this great international gathering. “.

In turn, TAP CEO Christine Urmier-Widener believes that “since its founding, almost 78 years ago, TAP has been associated with the greatest events in the history of Portugal”, and therefore “it is inevitable that TAP is a partner in this event with global consequences “.

WYD, considered the largest event of the Catholic Church, will take place this year in Lisbon from 1 to 6 August in the presence of Pope Francis and with an expected attendance of 1.5 million people.
