Al-Hilal once again surpassed Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr this Saturday to win the Saudi Arabian Super Cup after a 4-1 victory in a game that marked the farewell of referee Artur Soares Dias.
In the final between the two most important Saudi teams of the moment, Jorge Jesus, with several Portuguese players on the pitch, showed that his Al-Hilal are almost always more consistent and capable than Luis Castro’s Al-Nassr.
The team of Jesus, the coach who won his third Super Cup in Saudi Arabia this Saturday, a trophy that he adds to the championship and the Cup of last season, was even losing: Cristiano Ronaldo scored a goal shortly before the 44-year break.
Al Nasr featured Cristiano Ronaldo, as well as Portugal international Otavio with Alex Telles, Talisca and Sadio Mane, while Al Hilal with Ruben Neves was centre stage with Serbian duo Milinkovic-Savic and Mitrovic.
“Remontada” began with a combination of Mitrovic and Milinkovic-Savic for the latter’s goal, and then it was Aleksandar Mitrovic who “destroyed” Luis Castro’s team 2-1 with the help of Ruben Neves at 64 and a new goal for 3-1 at 69.
Minutes later, everything changed and Malcolm was to score a 4-1 equaliser in the 72nd minute of the final played at the Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz Stadium in Abha.
Al Hilal and Al Nasr reached the Super Cup final after eliminating Al Ahli Jeddah and Al Taawoun respectively in the semi-finals within a week.
For Artur Soares Dias, a 45-year-old Portuguese international referee, it was the end of a long career after two decades of officiating games in national and international competitions.
