The travel subsidy granted to students receiving a higher education scholarship and additional accommodation will increase from 25 to 40 euros per month. This change will be retroactive to the beginning of 2024.
The change in the rules for granting scholarships to students in higher education was already provided for in the 2024 state budget and was published this Monday in Diário da República.
According to the diploma, “relocated scholarship holders who receive a living allowance (…) are entitled to travel expenses in the months in which they receive this allowance, in the amount of 40 euros, up to a maximum annual level of 400 euros.”
Currently, travel support is set at €25 per month, with an annual maximum of €250.
The changes will come into force on January 1, 2024 and apply “to all applications already submitted on the day of entry into force,” the order of the Minister of Education, Science and Innovation adds.
The accommodation supplement is a support paid to displaced scholarship holders who have not received a place in state dormitories and varies from 264.24 to 456.41 euros depending on the city.
From the next academic year, students who are transferred without a scholarship, whose per capita income ranges from 836 euros to 1018 euros per month, will also receive living support corresponding to 50% of the cost of the supplement allocated to scholarship holders.
