The Navy is looking for its “GI Jane” (the 1997 character played by Demi Moore, who became the first member of the elite U.S. Marine Corps) and is calling on social media for candidates to become the “first Fusileiro” because there has never been a woman in the special corps. “Looking. Urgent. There are currently no women in the Marine Corps class and we want to change that, but we need you to do it,” he challenges.
The competition, which will last until September 30, will be held under equal conditions for men and women. How: 5 pull-ups on a horizontal bar; 30 push-ups on the stomach (maximum time 1 minute); run 2400 m on a flat surface (maximum time 12 minutes); swim 25 meters in a pool with controlled breathing in the ventral technique, without support and stops; while emerging, dive and collect a loop weighing from 0.2 to 0.5 kg, located at a depth of 2 to 2.5 m. Or, suspended on a vertical rope, jump into the approach net and go down to do this; or slide down a hill with a handle.
Psychological assessments and medical examinations are also carried out. Must be Portuguese national; 18 to 24 years old; have no criminal convictions and effective prison sentences. The Navy offers a contract of up to six years.
