This Monday, Evora police arrested the killer of José Coelho, a 69-year-old retired teacher whose body was found wrapped in rags and blankets at home in the city on August 2.
The 43-year-old killer was the victim’s tenant and is expected to appear before a judge on Tuesday. The crime was sparked by a dispute over unpaid rent.
The suspect was hiding in an abandoned farm on the outskirts of Evora. He had the victim’s belongings, bank cards and a firearm. However, it was not used in the crime, which was committed with physical aggression.
Jose Coelho’s wife had not seen him since July 15. He came to the house on August 2 and even crossed paths with the killer, who then managed to escape from the police.
