An inmate serving a sentence for murder at Caxias Oeiras Prison attacked a prison guard at the facility on Tuesday afternoon, striking him several times, a union source said. CMIt was the 26th attack on industry professionals this year alone.
The attack took place at 4:00 p.m., when guards were escorting prisoners out of the Cacxias prison yard. The killer began to persistently provoke the guard and was taken to the guard’s command room.
As soon as he entered the room, the prisoner attacked the guard, hitting him in the face at least three times. He was immediately detained and placed in solitary confinement. Remember, this is the third attack on guards in as many days. On Friday, in Bragança, a prisoner attacked two guards, breaking one of their arms. The guards were attacked after searching the prisoner’s cell.
National Prison Guards Union President Frederico Morais has promised “tough measures” if the government does not act quickly to stop the wave of violence against prison guards. CM that “no security force has experienced as many attacks as we have this year. The lack of consequences for prisoners, the failure to aggravate sentences and the protracted trial process means they remain unpunished.”
