The Judicial Police (PJ) arrested a 77-year-old man, a resident of the municipality of Vila Nova de Famalicao, Braga district, on suspicion of sexual abuse of his granddaughter, it was reported this Wednesday.
“The alleged violence, a crime aggravated by the family relationship and cohabitation between the suspect and the victim, was reported by the child to other family members and then reported to the authorities, who immediately launched an investigation, culminating in the consolidation of evidence and the subsequent arrest of the man,” the SP explained in its statement.
A judicial source told Lusa that the detainee is the victim’s grandfather, who is under 14 years old.
The man, who had previously been convicted of similar offences, attended the initial court hearing and was given compulsory measures prohibiting contact with the victim and prohibiting him from visiting the same places as the victim and his family.
